Look at me! I'm all growed up now and I'm finally serious about becoming an artist!
So... I just spent the last 6 years in Toronto. I got a degree in Visual Arts. I didn't learn shit but I have a piece of paper that says I did! Well, I guess it's not fair to say that I didn't learn shit. I learned that you do not need to go to school to become better at art. All you need to do to become better at art is to do more fucking art! That being said, I have begun the Draw Everyday movement. It's exactly what it sounds like. I can't promise to post a new drawing everyday because, let's face it, I'm only going to let the world see the art that I'm actually proud of. It's really more of a personal vow to not sell myself short and to make the best of whatever gifts I was given lest I lose my hand in a farming accident or develop some sort of unfortunate shaking disease...
Anyhow, I'm very well set up to do art and get it out there into the world. I finally have a good, private space to work in. I have a printer/scanner/photocopier/fax magic machine. I really only wanted a printer but but it seems they barely make those anymore and the all-in-one was actually cheaper. Go figure. I also spent a lot of time hunting down and buying the perfect drafting table. FYI, if you are thinking about buying one I really suggest you A) buy one from a store so you know what you're getting or at least B) read lots of reviews online before you order one. I almost decided to buy one online before I chanced upon an awesome hobby store in Gaylord, Michigan where they had just about every model I'd looked at online. I was shocked to discover that the table I had considered ordering was actually a total piece of wobbly shit! I ended up buying the Alvin CraftMaster floor model for just over $100. It's super sturdy, has a place for me to rest my feet, and it came with neat little storage drawers underneath. Awesome.
If anybody actually reads this, I would like to call your attention to one of my latest works, Littlefinger. If you are unaware of the inspiration for this drawing, let me fill you in:
Lord Petyr Baelish, AKA "Littlefinger" is a character from a series of novels that I am currently reading called A Song of Ice and Fire. The series has recently been made into an HBO series, currently in its first season. I just finished reading the third novel in the series and have decided that Petyr is my new favourite character. He's like this super badass schemer who uses his low status in his favor to deceive and manipulate those more privileged than himself. He thrives in times of chaos and is (in the words of a wiki of ice and fire) "a master of court intrigue, with his brilliance matched only by his ambition." He is delightfully wicked and I am super excited to see what the fourth novel holds in store for him. The drawing that I have done of him depicts how he appears in the TV show. I used a number of pictures of the character and of the actor (Aiden Gillen) to reference this drawing. I'm rather satisfied with it but I think I may draw him again...perhaps next time with Sansa Stark.
